    THINK ALONG THESE LINES-

    Why do I need this information? When preparing to do an assignment or research task, students need to organise and think carefully about six main steps. These steps are called the INFORMATION PROCESS. The steps help to interpret and present the information that is relevant to the task. Techniques and problem-solving skills are involved and become a life-long worthwhile skill.

    Here is a chart that will help you start to get organised.

    DEFINING.
                    What do I really want to find out? What is my purpose?
    Why do I need this information?
    What are the key words and ideas for the task?
    LOCATING
    Where can I find the information I need?

    What do I already know?
    What do I still need to find out?
    What resources can I use? (eg pictures, media articles, TV or radio websites, interviews)

    SELECTING
    What information do I really need to use? What can I leave out?
    How relevant is the information I have found?
    How true is the information I have found? (Is the author given? Does he have credibility?)
    ORGANISING.
    How can I best use this information? How can I take notes effectively, and arrange the information into a logical
    PRESENTING
    What is the best way to present my information?

    What is the best way to use this information?
    Which presentztion method would be the most effective? (Powerpoint, poster, essay, report.........)

    ASSESSING
    What have I learnt from this task?

    Have I finished everthing required in the task?
    Have I answered the requirements of the task?
    Is my presentation style effective and appropriate?
    Are there any problems with my work?
    Do need to redo parts of the task?
    What do I do now?
